Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor
Multiple Projects Underway with Various Lane and Ramp Closures
PLACER/NEVADA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp
closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in
Placer and Nevada counties.
Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor, the
cumulative delay may reach up to 2 hours depending on traffic volumes. Caltrans
encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor and
check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.
Here is the breakdown for next week in geographical order:
Eastbound I-80
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Canyon
Way/Placer Hills Road, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m.
to 6 a.m. Sunday, June 7 through Thursday, June 11. Work is also scheduled from
10 p.m. Friday, June 12 to 6 a.m. Saturday, June 13.
· Alta Pavement Improvement Project
· Between Colfax and Dutch Flat/Monte Vista, various lane and ramp
closures are scheduled from 6 p.m. Monday, June 8 to 6 a.m. Tuesday,
June 9 and from 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 10.
· Near Gold Run, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 7 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 through Thursday, June 11. Work is also
scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, June 12.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
· Between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, various lane closures are
scheduled around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, June 8 through 10 a.m.
Friday, June 12.
· Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal
Springs.
· Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-
80 to Drum Forebay.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between the Whitmore
maintenance yard and Nyack, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8
p.m. Sunday, June 7 to 6 a.m. Monday, June 8.
· Emergency Culvert Repairs
· Donner Lake Vista Point is scheduled to be closed starting at 7 a.m.
Monday, June 8 and scheduled to reopen at the end of the month.
· Between Vista Point and Donner Lake Interchange, various lane closures
are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 8 through Thursday,
June 11.
· Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project, intermittent traffic breaks are scheduled
near Boca from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 through Thursday, June 11.
Motorists may experience delays up to 30 minutes.
Westbound I-80
· Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project
· Between the Sierra/Nevada County line and Farad, various lane closures
are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 8 through Thursday,
June 11.
· Between Floriston and Hinton Road, various lane closures are scheduled
from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11.
· Intermittent traffic breaks are scheduled near the Sierra/Nevada County line
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 through Thursday, June 11.
Motorists may experience delays up to 30 minutes.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project
· Near Kingvale, various lane closures are currently in place around the clock
and scheduled to end at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19.
· Near Rainbow Road, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 7
p.m. Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11.
· Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project, off-ramp at Yuba Gap is closed
until further notice due to the crossover in place along westbound I-80. Motorists will
detour westbound to Emigrant Gap and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba Gap.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Monte
Vista, various lane closures are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, June 8
through Thursday, June 11. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 9 a.m. Friday,
June 12.
· Alta Pavement Improvement Project between Alta and Gold Run, various lane
and ramp closures are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, June 8 through
Thursday, June 11. Night work will end for the week at 5 a.m. Friday, June 12.
Additional work is scheduled during the day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9
through Thursday, June 11.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Canyon Way/Placer Hills
Road and Heather Glen, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m.
Sunday, June 7 to 6 a.m. Monday, June 8 and from 8 p.m. Monday, June 8 to 6
a.m. Tuesday, June 9.
The extended lane closures will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve
workers’ safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather,
availability of materials or other unexpected events.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work
Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing
these improvements.
