Shasta County Supervisor Matt Plummer & Trinity County Supervisor Ric Leutwyler highlight H.R. 1 impacts in rural northern California and the unified county budget ask in an op-ed for the Shasta Scout. Roundup: Initial Reimbursement Process Initiated for Two Newly Approved State-Mandated Programs When the State Controller’s Office (SCO) publishes the claiming instructions for a new state-mandated program, counties must submit claims for costs incurred during the “initial fiscal years” to the SCO within 120 days of the issuance of the claiming instructions (Government Code Section 17561). Federal Update: Congress Clears Immigration Funding Package, Setting Up Next Reconciliation Fight This week, the House gave final approval to a budget reconciliation package – the Secure America Act (S. 2) – that provides nearly $70 billion for immigration enforcement and border security activities through fiscal year 2029. California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names: Proposed Regulations to Define “Offensive and Derogatory” Names CSAC is co-hosting a webinar with the California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names (CACGN), a committee within the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), to obtain input on their draft regulations to clarify the Petition Process for Renaming Offensive and Derogatory Public Geographic Features and Place Names. California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force Releases Draft Five-Year Action Plan for Public Comment On Friday, June 5, California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force (Task Force) released the draft “Wildfire and Landscape Resilience Action Plan (2026-2031),” outlining the state’s next steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect communities.
