Public Health to Host FREE HIV and STI Testing Event for National HIV Testing Day
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – In recognition of National HIV Testing Day on Friday, June 26, Butte
County Public Health (BCPH) will offer free, confidential, rapid testing for HIV, syphilis, and
hepatitis C from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Public Health Clinics in Chico, located at 1930 Notre
Dame Blvd., and Oroville, located at 78 Table Mountain Blvd. Testing will take place inside the
clinics and is open to the public. Results will be available within 30 minutes.
Testing is available to everyone aged 12 and older. No ID or health insurance is required. Gift
cards will be provided while supplies last. Individuals who receive a positive test result will be
connected to confirmatory testing and treatment through local medical providers.
“Every year, we see about 10 to 16 new HIV cases in Butte County,” said Dr. Jarett Beaudoin,
Butte County Public Health Officer. “Getting tested is the first step. If you do test positive,
some treatments can help you stay healthy and live a full life—while also protecting others.”
Most people who have a sexually transmitted infection (STI) don’t know it, because many STIs
don’t have symptoms. Regular testing is the only way to know your status, and it’s an
important step in protecting your health and your partner(s). STIs are common, easy to test
for, and often easy to treat and manage.
Who should get tested?
HIV: Everyone aged 13–64 at least once; more often if at higher risk
Syphilis: All sexually active people at least once; more often if at higher risk
Hepatitis C: All adults 18 and older at least once and all pregnant women with each
pregnancy; more often if at risk
You may need more frequent testing if you:
Have more than one sexual partner
Don’t know your partner’s sexual history
Have sex without a condom
Are a man who has sex with men
Inject drugs or share needles
BCPH also offers an HIV PrEP and PEP Navigation program for people at higher risk or who
have been recently exposed. Navigators are available to provide HIV prevention education,
assist with enrolling in payment assistance programs, and link individuals to PrEP and PEP
prescribers. For more information about this program, contact the confidential Communicable
