FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 22, 2026 UPCOMING ROAD WORK ON SOUTH OROVILLE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLPROJECT OROVILLE, Calif. — Beginning June 29, 2026, the South Oroville Safe Routes to School(SRTS) Project will begin construction to improve roads, sidewalks, bike facilities, drainagesystems, and pedestrian safety features along Monte Vista Avenue from Lincoln Boulevardto Lower Wyandotte Road, Autrey Lane from Monte Vista Avenue to Las Plumas Avenue,and Lower Wyandotte Road from Monte Vista Avenue to Las Plumas Avenue. Constructionactivities are anticipated to occur between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday throughFriday, as weather and daylight conditions permit. Construction is currently expected to becompleted towards the end of 2026. Major improvements include rebuilding and repaving the roadway, constructing new curb,gutter, and sidewalk, and adding a new 8-foot-wide shared-use path for pedestrians andbicyclists along the north side of Monte Vista Avenue between Farley Street and AutreyLane. Missing sidewalk sections will also be completed along the south side of Monte VistaAvenue between Lincoln Boulevard and Autrey Lane and along the west side of AutreyLane to provide a more continuous and accessible walking route for students andresidents. The project will also install new storm drainage infrastructure, upgradepedestrian curb ramps to meet current accessibility standards, and add new pavementmarkings, signs, and roadway reflectors. Additional school safety enhancements willinclude rapid flashing beacons at pedestrian crossings and driver feedback signs thatdisplay vehicle speeds to encourage safer driving near schools. These improvements are intended to provide safer and more accessible routes forstudents traveling to and from Las Plumas High School, Helen Wilcox Elementary School,and Golden Hills Elementary School, while also benefiting pedestrians, bicyclists, and
motorists throughout the South Oroville community. Roadways will remain open to traffic during construction; however, temporary trafficcontrol measures, including lane closures, flaggers, and traffic delays, may be in place tosafely accommodate construction activities. Motorists should expect delays of up to15 minutes during construction and are urged to use caution when passing through workzones and to use alternate routes if possible.
