Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor
Multiple Projects Underway with Various Lane and Ramp Closures
PLACER/NEVADA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp
closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in
Placer and Nevada counties.
Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor, the
cumulative delay may reach up to 2 hours depending on traffic volumes. Caltrans
encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor and
check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.
Here is the breakdown for next week in geographical order:
Eastbound I-80
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Canyon
Way/Placer Hills Road, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m.
to 6 a.m. Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25.
· Alta Pavement Improvement Project
· Between Colfax and Magra, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled
from 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21 to 6 a.m. Monday, June 22 and from 5 p.m. to
6 a.m. Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25. Work is scheduled to
end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, June 26.
· Near Gold Run, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 7 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25. Work is also
scheduled from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, June 26.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
· Between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, various lane and ramp closures
are scheduled around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, June 22 through 10
a.m. Friday, June 26.
· Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal
Springs.
· Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-
80 to Drum Forebay.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project
· Between Blue Canyon and Nyack, various lane closures are scheduled
from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, June 21 through Thursday, June 25.
· Blue Canyon Road is scheduled to be closed starting 6 a.m. Monday, June
22 through noon Friday, June 26.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project between Blue Canyon Road and
Rainbow, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June
22 through Thursday, June 25 and from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, June 26.
· Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Troy and Soda Springs,
lane closures are currently in place around the clock and scheduled to end at 10
a.m. Friday, June 26.
· Emergency Culvert Repairs
· Donner Lake Vista Point is closed and scheduled to reopen at the end of
the month.
· Between Vista Point and Donner Lake Interchange, various lane closures
are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 22 through Wednesday,
June 24.
Westbound I-80
· Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project
· Between the Sierra/Nevada County line and Farad, various lane closures
are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 through
Thursday, June 25.
· Between Floriston and Hinton Road, various lane closures are scheduled
from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project between Rainbow and Blue
Canyon, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June
22 through Thursday, June 25 and from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, June 26.
· Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project, Off-ramp at Yuba Gap is
closed until further notice due to the crossover in place along westbound I-80.
Motorists will detour westbound to Emigrant Gap and return eastbound on I-80 to
Yuba Gap.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Monte
Vista, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday,
June 22 through Thursday, June 25. Work is also scheduled from 6 p.m. Friday,
June 26 through 9 a.m. Saturday, June 27.
· Alta Pavement Improvement Project
· Near Gold Run, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25.
· Between Rollins Lake Road and Cape Horn Road, various lane closures
are scheduled from 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21 to 6 a.m. Monday, June 22 and
from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25. Work is
scheduled to end for the week by 6 a.m. Friday, June 26.
The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of the work and improve worker
safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of
materials or other unexpected events.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work
Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing
these improvements.
