Temporary Traffic Signal Outages Scheduled on State Route 32
Motorists Should Expect Short Delays at Five Intersections in Downtown Chico
BUTTE COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists of temporary traffic signal outages next
week while crews replace aging traffic signal controller cabinets at five downtown Chico
intersections.
The ongoing State Route 32 (SR 32) Pavement Rehabilitation Project in Chico includes
pavement rehabilitation, drainage improvements, Americans with Disabilities Act
upgrades, and traffic signal enhancements along the SR 32 corridor.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, July 27 and is expected to continue for up to five
working days.
To minimize impacts to commuters, construction crews will begin work around 8 a.m. with
traffic signals scheduled to be temporarily turned off after 9 a.m. once the morning
commute has subsided. Each signal is expected to be out of service for approximately 40
minutes while the new controller cabinet is installed.
The following intersections are scheduled for work:
· East 8th Street and Cypress Street
· East 8th Street and Pine Street
· East 8th Street and Broadway Street
· East 9th Street and Pine Street
· East 9th Street and Cypress Street
During the temporary signal outages, the intersections will function as all-way stops.
Motorists are reminded to approach each intersection with caution, obey all temporary
traffic control measures, and be prepared for minor delays.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work
Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews
performing these improvements.
