Motorists Should Expect Lane Closures as Project Advances into Major Paving Phase
OROVILLE — Caltrans is advising motorists that construction on the State Route 162 (SR
162) Pavement Rehabilitation Project in Oroville is entering its next major phase, with
roadway excavation and paving scheduled to begin in early August.
Over the next several weeks, crews will continue completing sidewalk improvements,
driveway reconstruction, curb ramps, electrical work, and other finishing activities
throughout the project corridor. Beginning on Sunday, August 2, crews are expected to
begin pavement digouts, a process that removes deteriorated sections of roadway before
the new pavement is placed. This work is anticipated to continue for approximately two
weeks.
Following the digout operation, full-width paving is expected to begin in mid-August and
continue for approximately two to three weeks (weather and construction conditions
permitting).
To complete this work safely, motorists should continue to expect:
· Overnight lane closures Sunday through Thursday
· Traffic control with flaggers or one-way traffic control as needed
· Reduced speeds through construction zones
· Minor delays while work is underway
Construction activities occur Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with
some daytime work taking place for sidewalk, electrical, and related improvements.
The $26 million project will improve the driving surface on SR 162 while upgrading curb
ramps and sidewalks to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, enhancing
drainage systems, replacing traffic signal and lighting equipment, and improving roadway
safety throughout the corridor.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work
Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews
performing these improvements.
