Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor
Multiple Projects Underway with Various Lane and Ramp Closures
PLACER/NEVADA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp
closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in
Placer and Nevada counties.
Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor,
the cumulative delay may reach up to two hours depending on traffic volumes.
Caltrans encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra
corridor and check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.
Here is the breakdown for next week in geographical order:
Eastbound I-80
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Weimar,
various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, July
26 through Thursday, July 30. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m.
Friday, July 31.
· Alta Pavement Improvement Project between Magra and Gold Run, various
lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. Sunday, July 26 to 6 a.m.
Monday, July 27 and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, July 27 through Wednesday,
July 29. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Thursday, July 30.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
· Between Monte Vista/Dutch Flat and Drum Forebay, various lane and
ramp closures are scheduled around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, July
27 through noon Thursday, July 30.
· Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal
Springs.
· Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists
will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-
80 to Drum Forebay.
Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project, looking west from the Monte Vista overcrossing where crews ground and paved
the remaining bits of asphalt not rehabilitated yet.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near the Whitmore Maintenance
Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July
27 through Wednesday, July 29.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between the Whitmore
Maintenance Station and Emigrant Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from
8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, July 26 through Thursday, July 30. Work is scheduled to
end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, July 31.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project at Rainbow, various lane closures
are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 27 through Wednesday, July
29.
· Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Troy and Soda
Springs, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July
27 through Wednesday, July 29.
Westbound I-80
· Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project between Floriston and Hinton Road,
various lane closures are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 28
through Friday, July 31.
· Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Rainbow, various lane
closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 27 through Thursday,
July 30.
· Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project, westbound I-80 off-ramp at
Yuba Gap is closed until further notice due to the crossover in place. Motorists will
detour westbound to the Emigrant Gap exit and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba
Gap.
Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project where crews recently installed seven precast concrete girders and are now
preparing for falsework installation.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Emigrant Gap and the
Whitmore Maintenance Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m.
Sunday, July 26 to 6 a.m. Monday, July 27 and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, July
27 through Wednesday, July 29. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m.
Thursday, July 30.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and
Dutch Flat/Monte Vista, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 3 p.m.
to 9 a.m. Monday, July 27 through Thursday, July 30. Work is scheduled to end for
the week at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31.
· Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Weimar and Applegate,
various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Sunday, July 26 to 6 a.m.
Monday, July 27 and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, July 27 through Thursday,
July 30. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, July 31.
The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of construction and improve
worker safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather,
availability of materials or other unexpected events.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work
Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews
performing these improvements.
