Hello,
My name is Randal Turley. My son (also name Randal) is currently a 16 year old at PVHS
in chico and has an obsession with flag and would like to present to the board a proposal
about Butte county adopting a county flag. I have included a letter he wrote to the board
with his idea. If this is something the county could be interested in he would love to
speak at a meeting.

Dear Members of the Butte County Board of Supervisors,
My name is Randal Turley III, and I am 16 years old and currently attend Pleasant Valley High
School. I have lived in Butte County my entire life and have developed a deep pride for our
community after seeing how we have overcome numerous hardships, including the Camp Fire,
the Park Fire, and, most recently, the heartbreaking arson of the Bidwell Mansion.
I believe our county is missing a unifying symbol that many other counties across the country
have had for years: an official flag.
I have attached a flag design that I created myself. The orange circle in the upper-left corner
represents an orange from the historic Mother Orange Tree in our county seat, Oroville, while
also serving as the sun rising over the horizon. The blue bands transition into gold, symbolizing
the skies above Northern California and the golden fields of the Sacramento Valley. At the
bottom, the silhouette of the Sutter Buttes is drawn in the same style as it appears on the official
Butte County seal, representing one of our county's most recognizable landmarks.
I believe an official county flag would become a meaningful symbol of Butte County's identity. It
could be displayed at county buildings, schools, parks, and community events, helping
strengthen our shared sense of pride while bringing Butte County in line with many other
counties that have adopted official flags.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my proposal. I appreciate your service to our
community and hope you will consider the idea of adopting an official flag for Butte County.
