Subject: Property Protection from Deed thiefs
Dear Board,
I have been greatly concerned about Title/Deed Theft as my home is paid off. I see
commercials for yet more insurance and I think, "There has to be another way
besides Home Title Lock, etc!" I believe I have a solution to HELP with the problem.
I did call Butte County about 2 years ago and asked if Deed/Title Theft is a problem in
Butte County - the answer was, "Yes, we have had some. Not as bad as bigger
cities. But some cases have been referred to the D.A."
I would like to propose that all land owners get notified whenever someone files any
form of paperwork on a piece of land. Be it lien, mortgage, Quit Claim, etc. It seems
to me in the digital age, the computer can automatically send a text message or email
to a land owner when the County files paperwork on their property. This gives the
landowner a chance to stop the theft in its tracks! If the "bad guys" know that an
owner is notified instantly, maybe they will leave us alone. They are counting on us
not finding out until a bank says you are in default on a fraudulent loan - if Home Title
Lock can be believed - and I believe they can.
Please help all of us protect our properties. I only see this problem getting worse.
The FBI website has information on this problem. Let's get ahead of it.
