To the Board members:
I may have missed the comment deadline but here goes anyway. Please do not open up the
closed portion of Humboldt Road that currently serves as a bike/pedestrian path. Here is my
rationale:
I rode the old Humboldt Road for many years, and here is who I saw using other than property
owners: other cyclists and 1-3 cars parked alongside the road with one person sitting in the
vehicle waiting. Waiting for what? We can only guess at that. I don’t think I ever saw a
vehicle using it to actually get somewhere. And it was so rutted and in such a poor state, I
finally gave up using it because my teeth and spine couldn’t take it any more.
Reasons to keep it closed:
-It is currently used daily by cyclists, walkers and runners.
-The views (I learned the term “view-shed as it relates to this road) are absolutely beautiful
and can be thoroughly enjoyed at riding/walking pace.
-it is one of the few vehicle-free places for cyclists to ride. (It’s especially nice in the winter
when fog or potential rain and super-wet pavement make road-riding unsafe.)
-Illegal dumping is not happening.
-The general public doesn’t need it as a way to get somewhere, as Hwy 32 is right there to be
used by all.
I hope you keep this lovely gem as is.
