You Cannot Own What the Government Can Take for Not Paying Rent - this article
contains an article by the great KrisAnne Hall - one thing not mention is a town in Texas has
not had local property tax since 1995 and they have the full range of services and they DID not
raise sales tax to do it. HERE is an article about this town. Stafford is not some rinky dink
town. It is the largest city in Texas. The reason city councils/county commissions fight this so
hard is because they don’t want to actually perform their fiduciary duties and create REAL
budgets. When I was a County Commissioner I proposed ZERO budgeting and you would
have thought I had asked them to sell their first born child. Last year TN had some really good
bills to address the rising local property tax. Of course they were all squashed but now that the
businesses in Nashville are complaining they are thinking of opening a special session to
address property taxes. They could have had this addressed in the last session but they caved
to pressure from leadership and local governments that do not want to tighten the belt and fund
only what is needed and not the “nice to haves.” TN is one of only 4 states that does not have
some form of tax caps etc. TN also has a constitutional requirement for property tax so while
they could pass legislation for relief they would have to change their state Constitution before
they could end local property tax - ARTICLE
